Cottonwood Creek 5th Ward - Temple & Family History Plan - 2024
The Cottonwood Creek 5th Ward goals, actions and encouragements for the year 2024. The individual committee member primarily responsible for each area is noted in parenthesis. The Temple & Family History ("T&FH") Committee consists of the following individuals:

Bro. B. Hill, Youth Representative for Young Men
Sis. M. Wright, Youth Representative for Young Women
Bro. D. Smith, Elders Quorum 1st Counselor
Sis. N. Dubois, Relief Society 2nd Counselor
Goal #1: Attendance at RootsTech 2024 (All)
Scheduled at the Salt Palace from February 29 - March 2, 2024. We want to have at least 50 adults and 10 youth (maybe a youth activity) attend at least one partial day of the event.
Goal #2: Quarterly Temple Attendance Activity (Sis S. Weber)
Coordinate with the Elders Quorum and Relief Society to hold a formal adult temple activity each quarter, preferable with a dinner (before or after). Young men and young women may be able to babysit as needed.
Goal #3: Contribute an article to each edition of the ward newsletter (Sis S. Weber)
Bro. B. Hixon still publishes the ward newsletter. Coordinate submission of article with him.
Goal #4: Monthly Five-Minute Presentation (EQ: Bro. D. Smith; RS: Sis. S. Weber)
Organize, arrange or schedule a 5-minute T&FH moment (training, story, etc.) at one organization meeting each month. Coordinate in advance with organization presidency.
Action #1: Monthly Committee Meeting (Bro. R. Gagon)
Each month a meeting of all committee members (noted above) will be held. The agenda will be prepared by the T&FH Leader. The default date/time is the second Sunday at 3pm, but may change to accommodate individual schedules.
Action #2: 2nd Hour Training (All)
The second hour is available to us for individual or small group training as needed or requested. We hope to organize this better in our next committee meeting. We are considering another survey, possibly with QR code.
Action #3: Use of Ward Calendar (Bro. R. Gagon to coordinate with Ward Clerk, Bro. R. Head)
Ensure pertinent events are noted on the ward calendar. Find out if we can edit the calendar directly.
Action #4: Youth Advancing to Young Men and Young Women (Bro. B. Hill, Sis. M. Wright)
Youth representatives will participate in teaching the Primary class(es) of those soon advancing to Young Men and Young Women. This will be coordinated with the Primary President and the class instructor(s).
Encouragement #1: Familiarity with Available Tools
Encourage use of the Granite Family History Center located nearby, at 2720 E. Newcastle Drive, Sandy, UT 84093. Also, encourage familiarity with the following applications and websites:

• FamilySearch.org (same login and password as church account)
• TheFHGuide.com (training for FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast, and others)
• Get Involved app (Indexing)
• Take A Name app
• Family Tree app
Encouragement #2: Quarterly Baptisms for the Dead (Bro. B. Hill, Sis. M. Wright)
The youth representatives on the committee will work with youth leaders to schedule temple attendance on a quarterly basis to perform baptisms for the dead.
Encouragement #3: Indexing
Encourage all members to use the Get Involved app to index names.
Encouragement #4: Learn About Ancestors
Learn three new stories of an ancestor in 2024.
Encouragement #5: Share family stories at family events
Make an effort to learn about important family history events and stories. Then find opportunity to share them at family and extended family events.
Encouragement #6: Full Cycle for One Family Member
Have each family perform a full cycle of temple work for a dead ancestor within a four-month period as follows:
Month 1 - find a name and perform baptism
Month 2 - perform initiatory
Month 3 - perform endowment
Month 4 - perform sealing
